12 Whistling in Tune

12 Whistling in Tune

When the tune is not all about you…Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks

A whistleblower is a person who raises a concern about alleged wrongdoing occurring in an organization or body of people. The public perception of whistleblowers varies widely; some view whistleblowers as selfless martyrs that strive to restore the fragile moral fabric of a society, while others view them as snitchers who are not able to conform to organization rules and regulations.

The recent spate of information released by WikiLeaks triggered many to ponder over the role of whistle blowing. Whistle blowing when committed with honest intent and scruples does and will lead to greater accountability and transparency; however when it is used as a weaponry to provoke, it may go out-of-tune with not only those in governance but also with the general public. The art of whistle-blowing is a delicate craft, it requires the executer to keep to the middle path, so that all that whistling stays in tune.
