72 Smalldive’s new collection Downtown is inspired by a story of Japanese writer Hayashi Fumiko. A daughter of an impecunious peddler, Hayashi took up many jobs to support herself and her passion for writing. Though often in poverty, Hayashi’s principal characters are usually women who led their lives with a surprising degree of cheerfulness and hope. This is a collection
dedicated to the world’s (unsung) heroines. Each season, the collection will be updated with a model named after a fictional or historical heroine to celebrate their tenacity, their ferocity, and their positive will for independence and liberty, season after season.
